GMP Nominee Updates

Rev. Dr. Karen Georgia Thompson is the nominee for General Minister & President (GMP). This video conversation between her and GMP Search Committee chair Rev. Noah Brewer-Wallin provides some introduction to Karen Georgia, her background, and her vision for the future of the UCC.

The Meet the Candidate session will happen Saturday, July 1 at 4:15 p.m. in Room 125.

In early 2022, the United Church of Christ Board appointed a General Minister & President Search Committee. The Search Committee began its work with listening sessions with various constituencies of the church and writing a comprehensive opportunities and challenges document to supplement the official job description. After the position was posted, the Committee reviewed written materials from applicants and engaged in multiple interview stages.

In February 2023, the Search Committee announced Rev. Dr. Karen Georgia Thompson as their recommended candidate, and in March 2023, the United Church of Christ Board voted her as the GMP Nominee.

• Friday, June 30: Rev. Dr. Thompson will be speaking at Plenary 2 (subject to change)
• Saturday, July 1, 4:15-5:15pm: Meet the Candidate in Room 125
• Monday, July 3: The vote for General Minister & President is currently scheduled for the morning plenary
